Sixth in the series, "In Search of Light" is a compendium of nine outstanding governance initiatives that were selected for the Prime Minister's Award for Excellence in Public Administration (2007-08). Some of the stories highlight action that have improved the lives of people - for example the transformation of urban public transport in Bangalore,  primary education through Activity Based Learning (ABL) in Tamil Nadu, improved health and sanitation practices in Surguja, Chattisgarh and registration through SCORE in Bihar.  Tangible benefits have been seen through the Chiranjeevi Scheme for safe motherhood and child survival in Gujarat and lives saved through effective evacuation of Indians in war affected Lebanon. The MCA21 initiative for incorporation and regulation of companies through an e-governance solution; computerised personnel information systems (CPIS) in Manipur, and implementation of a Risk Management System in the Customs Department are examples of increased efficiency through innovation and application.
