Campus placement for Tihar inmates
Business houses have been roped in to hire qualified Tihar jail inmates, post their release.

It'sn going to be a ‘campus placement’, albeit for convicts instead of students. And like any other recruitment drive, the candidate’s presentation would be the key point when corporate houses visit Tihar Jail on February 25 to hire ‘qualified’ persons once they are released.

The prison authorities are already in the process of shortlisting 50 candidates, who have received vocational and professional training while serving their terms. While some convicts are well-educated, others are looking for jobs based on the professional and vocational training they received while serving their terms. A few have even managed to acquire MBA and MCA degrees while serving their term, through distance education programmes of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).

“We are getting in touch with agencies to give a crash course on the presentation to selected candidates. It is important for potential employees to have a good, presentable curriculum vitae. The agencies, essentially NGOs working with us, will prepare make the CVs. IGNOU will also help certify the prisoners,” said Sunil Gupta, spokesperson of Tihar Jail.
