E-auctioning government articles
Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and cabinet have decided to auction off the surplus unserviceable articles of the various government departments online. This innovative process will help in the efficient disposal of old materials.

The surplus or unserviceable articles of the various departments of the Delhi government will now be disposed of through e-auction. Delhi government decided this on Monday in a cabinet meeting presided over by chief minister Sheila Dikshit.

After the meeting, Dikshit told journalists that the various departments of the state government were facing difficulties in disposal of their surplus or unserviceable articles. In order to establish a centralized mechanism to dispose of such material, Metal and Scrap trading Corporation Ltd. (MSTC Ltd.) a government of India enterprise, has been engaged.

Dikshit said that MSTC would try its best to get the best prices for disposing the scrap material lying in different departments. The MSTC Ltd. will charge a service fee @2.75% for disposing the material. In case the amount exceeds Rs.80 crore in a financial year the service charges will be reduced to 2.50%.

A lot of government office space has been used up by scrap and other disused material. Isolated cases of disposal by different departments was not fetching good price. Dikshit said that new mechanism would help in disposal of such items in a systematic, fast and transparent manner.
