New Public Health Centres to be set up in Assam
In the interior riverine areas of Assam, 50 new Public Health Centres equipped with OPD, laboratory, and a wide stock of medicines will soon be operationalised to maximise the outreach of NRHM.

Guwahati: Assam government will soon start 50 new public health centers (PHC) in the interior riverine areas where an estimated 30 lakh population of the state lives.

Each PHC building will cost Rs one crore and modern architectural technique would be used to construct the buildings at raised platforms to save them from the annual floods.

The PHCs would be well equipped with 57 items of medicines available round the clock to facilitate doctors to serve people without any hassle.

The centres will have OPD service, basic laboratory facility, waiting room for patients and proper drinking water facility.

Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently said the department would soon operationalise 50 Public Health Centres in different char areas.

The centres would initially run from rented accommodation and the government would start construction of permanent buildings of the PHCs.

Officials of NRHM, Assam said each PHC would have a medical officer, pharmacist, laboratory technician and accountant. He said appointment letters have already issues to deserving candidates against every post.
