Right to information query on SMS
The State Information Commission of Karnataka plans to introduce a short message service through which RTI applicants can track the status of their query on their mobile. The service is not mandatory and will be available to those who opt for it.

The Karnataka Information Commission (KIC) will soon introduce a service through which the RTI applicants will be able to know the status of their applications by short message service (SMS) on their mobile phones.

“The service should start in a month or so,” said B A Nagesh, secretary, KIC.

Once the service is launched, the RTI applicant will be given a case registration number through which he can track his query.

However, the service is not mandatory and will be available for those who seek it.

The commission is working out of the modalities of the facility including the charges the applicant will pay to avail it.

KIC will be the first information commission to introduce such facility.
