Kerala to file review petition in Supreme Court on PDS limit
In response to the Supreme Court’s verdict on limiting supply of subsidised food grains to below poverty line category only, Kerala’s Chief Minister has urged the court to include above poverty line category under the public distribution system.

CPI-M led LDF government in Kerala today expressed concern over the Supreme Court order to "limit" supply of subsidised foodgrains to Below poverty line category and said it would file a review petition against the directive.

The Centre's "wrong" Public Distribution System (PDS) policy led to the apex court verdict, State Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan told reporters here after a cabinet meeting.

Excluding Above poverty Line category from PDS would adversely affect Kerala, where Statutory Universal Rationing system was in force for the past several decades, he said.

Kerala wanted the Centre to take urgent steps to continue the present PDS system in the state.Government has also decided to convene an all party meeting to work out the state's strategy to face the new situation following the apex court order.

On April 31,the Supreme Court reiterated its earlier order that persons above poverty line shall not be entitled to subsidised foodgrains but if the Government was determined to extend the benefit, it shall be given to those families whose annual income is below Rs three lakh.
