E-Food.net

Summary:

E-Food.Net is an online information channel. It is a project of Haryana state govt. that was lunched in June 2002 to facilitate the activities of its Food and Supplies Department. Now it provides all information relating to the activities of the Department which is necessary especially for the food agencies. The Department involves a lot of activities related to procurement of food grains and public distribution, consumer protection, weights and measures etc. An important function of the Department is the procurement of food grains and delivering the same to the Central Pool. Traditionally, this core function was run in manual system. Related information was compiled by huge staff, which took a lot of time. As a result, by the time information was available it lost its utility. This practice was initiated against this backdrop.

It is claimed that after initiation of this e-governance practice the department has significantly managed to overcome those problems. Now it can easily handle the functions. The information technology helps it make the information relating to procurement and storage available to the stakeholders in time. As a result, efficiency, ease and speed have come in their public service delivery systems. At the same time cost of management has reduced. However, the report analyses the practice from governance perspectives and also informs you of the lessons learnt from it. More>>>
