The National Urban Transport Policy envisages the setting up of a Unified Metropolitan Transport Agency in million plus cities. This is one of the conditions for sanction of buses for urban transport under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Mission.
Indore City Transport Services Limited was incorporated in December 2005 with an objective to manage the public transport system of Indore. It implemented a new public transport system entirely operated by competitively procured contract operators.
Under the National Action Plan on Climate Change, India has launched a low-carbon transport project with the United Nations Environment Programme for three years. It aims to build low-carbon transport infrastructure in major cities.
