The Haryana government started the E-Food.Net in 2002 to facilitate the activities of Food and Supplies Department by using modern information and communication technologies.

Prior to its implementation, procurement and storage functions were managed manually and the related information compiled by huge staff consumed a lot of time. The decisions for actions like movement of stock from mandies to godowns for storage and dispatches of food grains from storage locations to various parts of country for consumption were taken on an adhoc basis. Hence, the objective of this project was to use ICT to make the information related to procurement and storage available on time, and thereby improving efficiency and cost effectiveness. This project has facilitated the activities of Food and Supplies Department by making information open to all the users. Reports containing information related to storage, stock and procurement has enabled the department and private agencies to take quick decisions. Such an initiative has ensured transparency, proved to be sustainable and easily replicable in other states.
