Borne out of Information Kerala Mission (IKM), Sevana is a digital civil registration system. It includes five modules that each work towards digitizing a wide range of records majorly pertaining to birth, death, marriage, and pensions.

Winner of the bronze medal in ‘Outstanding performance in Citizen-Centric Service Delivery’, National e-Governance Awards 2009-2010, Sevana effectively digitizes civil registration records for residents in one gram panchayat and four corporations in the state of Kerala.

Although a seemingly simple execution, the civil document digitization process is one that requires the precision and monitoring that Sevana has accomplished. Streamlining the civil registration process, especially in a highly decentralized state like Kerala, is vital to effective public service delivery. Often, digitization efforts are carried out, but the lack of attention to details and poor quality control of record making leads to an ineffective system. Through archiving, data auditing and indexing, Sevana manages to bring e-administration efforts to a new level of functioning.
