About the GKC

The Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances, as part of its mandate to document and disseminate good-governance initiatives, has launched a Web Portal, namely, Governance Knowledge Centre (GKC) in 2005.

The portal is intended to be a knowledge repository and a platform for sharing of ideas and views on governance and is primarily targeted at civil servants and those interested in the practice of and research on governance and public management. It is felt that the knowledge shared by practitioners and researchers would facilitate a better comprehension of the nuances of administrative and management practices and pave the way for taking up appropriate interventions aimed at improving governance standards which in turn would help improve delivery of services to the citizens. From 2005 to 2013, the designing & maintenance of the portal, and creation & uploading of the content, was being done through outsourced agencies. Since February, 2013, the Department has been updating the content of the portal at its own.

Over a period, the GKC portal has evolved as an important source of governance related knowledge with well researched documents, working papers, government reports, case studies etc; reviews of books in the area of public policy of the Government; news items; events and announcements updated from time to time. The portal also have interactive features in the form of blogs to inspire and encourage readers to share their thoughts on pertinent issues of governance; peer interface for exchange of ideas between experts; help desk to seek replies / clarifications / additional information on the content available on the portal; and a repository on awards, videos and photographs of major events.
